CINCH Academy 2015

From June 1st to June 7th 2015, the CINCH Academy took place in Essen for the third time. CINCH Academy is the summer school of the health economics research centre CINCH and offers young researchers the opportunity for exchange and further education. This year there were again many excellent applications from which 20 participants were selected. In addition to various European countries they came from Colombia, India and South Korea, among others.

The contents of this year's lectures included empirical methods and techniques to illustrate data as well as current research on health investments and social mobility. Internationally renowned lecturers Kjell Salvanes (Norwegian School of Economics, Bergen) and Andrew Jones (University of York) were recruited for this purpose. In this way, the participants were given in-depth insights into the various topics. In addition, each participant had time to present and discuss his or her own current research work. Participants thus receive constructive feedback for their own work. The best submission was awarded the CINCH Academy best paper award. Ivan Zilic (University of Linz) convinced the jury with his work "Effect of forced displacement on health" and landed just ahead of Carlos Felipe Gaviria (Universidad del Rosario, Bogotá, Colombia), who was the second one with his work "Health insurance and young adults' usage of medical services in Colombia.
